You mentioned that John Noakes gave Shep away and then used a Shepalike to do adverts later on. I remember an episode of the mid-eighties BBC show Fax (which, come to think of it was a bit like AMT..hmm..) where Noakes was the guest and when host Billy Butler jovially asked him “How’s Shep?” he became tearful and said that Shep had recently died.
What’s going on there? Crocodile tears? Pangs of regret? Fake News?
