Elisa sees my John Thaw enrapturement in last week’s episode, and raises:

I think I might win the age gap contest regarding celebrity crushes. I’ve been in love with Michael Caine for years. I first discovered my love for him in 2007 after the movie The Prestige – I was 19, and he was 74.

Eurghhh! Michael Caine at any age….shudder.

Readers, the gauntlet has thrown down. Are you able to beat Elisa’s age gap crush? Moreover, SHOULD you be able to?

  1. Stacey Says:

From when I was 11 until about 14, I had a major crush on Sam Neill who is 40 years older.

  2. Ben Says:

I don’t know whether it’s because I read the title of this as ‘Canine Crush’, but is Chris’ attraction to Lauren Bacall somehow based on her inhuman ageing process? She aged nine years in the time it took him to age four.

  3. Sophie Says:

I don’t know if this counts, but since watching Singin’ in the Rain on christmas day a few years ago I have been infatuated with Donald O’Connor. I am 18 and he died at 78.

  4. Garry from Sussex Says:

Always having been a bit of a gerontophile, I saw, at the tender age of 25, an interview with Lillian Gish – she would have been about 95 at the time but in her eyes was more vivacity than most women my age – I was captivated.

Now she’s more of a hottie from history and I’m catching her up.

Helen should know my dad is a dead ringer for John Thaw – unfortunately I’m not!

  5. Chris from Cardiff (Australia) Says:

I had/have a bit of a crush on Lauren Bacall after seeing a double-bill of “Murder on the Orient Express” and Lars von Trier’s “Dogville” in 2007. I was 15 and she would have been about 78.

She’s now 87, I’m 19 and to be honest, I’d still date her given the opportunity…

    … but I don’t think I’d want to get into her pants, though… I don’t think they’d fit.
