tea and toast

A curio now from Chris from Barking:

In episode 145 you mentioned that you would rather dip a stick of celery in tea than a Nice biscuit.

This got me thinking of my friend who is from “up north” somewhere, he will frequently use his tea for dipping his toast in his tea!

He assures me that this is normal behaviour up north, so answer me this: is my friend a freak, or is it really normal up north? I’m suspicious as he also wipes his arse with baby wipes (which I am certain is not normal behaviour for an adult male!)

I have no trustworthy northern friends/acquaintances to ask and would like to continue mocking him but now with the confidence that I am right and what he is doing is odd and not just some regional peculiarity.

Northern readers, shed light on this phenomenon:

My Dad eats ‘pobs’, which is a bowl of tea with about 3 slices of bread in it. This is eaten with a spoon and is utterly repulsive. He loves it, and so does his sister. Dipping crusts in your tea sounds considerably less insane…

    Hello.

In a similar vein, my ma (who is from Middlesbrough. That is up north too) incouraged us to dip the crusts from our sandwiches into tea too. So, im sure that toast would work. And, may i say, crusts in tea was lovely. It left a slight sludgy residue at the bottom of the tea. But it were worth it. 🙂

I live en France and I know of people who dip Roquefort-laden bread into their coffee. For breakfast.

I’m American, and I do this all the time! Love tea-dipped buttered toast. Good stuff.

As a youth, my granny would give us black coffee and buttered toast after school and we would gleefully dip the toast in the coffee. In retrospect, it is a bit weird, and I don’t do it any more with tea or coffee.
