Misty water-coloured memories…

Here’s a good question from Jim from Tewkesbury, aged 29 and 11/12ths:

I recently had a dream about my first crush, who I haven’t thought about for years.

On waking I obviously thought of you guys, so, Helen and Olly, answer me this: who were your first crushes, and how did their lives pan out without you holding them back?

Olly’s became an interior designer. Helen later went out with hers for three years, shortly after which he gained himself a wife and three children. Martin the Sound Man’s is lost to the sands of time (ie he has no idea, but she’s probably safe and sound somewhere. Isn’t she, Martin? ISN’T SHE?).

So what do you reckon, readers? Are our first crushes the winners in this equation? And what became of your own first crushes? Go forth to the comments and tell us, please!

My first crush was a girl called Grace. She rejected me and went out with someone else in my class. However, she later had a child at 15 and went on to contract a disgusting sexually transmitted infection from a drunken chav.

So I reckon I dodged a bullet there.

I developed my first crush, Kyle, in 2nd grade (7 years old) and secretly loved him until I was 10 and finally told my friends. An overzealous friend asked him if he liked me “yes, no, maybe.” He said yes. We “went out” for a year which consisted of passing each notes in the hallway during school and talking on the phone after school. He eventually dumped me to go out with a more popular girl. It’s been almost 14 years and I’m still pissed at that other girl. Kyle and I became friends again in high school and we laugh about those days. He’s working in hotel management. I think he’s doing well. Plus he’s still super cute so I think my 7 year old self had good taste.
