sick as a dog

Are there any vets* reading this? We’ve just received an emergency call from James from Washington DC:

My dog just swallowed a condom.

It’s not mine…we were in the neighborhood for his morning walk.

Will he be ok???

Readers – will he? Does James need to perform emergency surgery with the stick with which they were playing fetch? Should he try to get the dog to puke up the offending item? And does he need to take any special measures to avoid catching an STD from the inadvisable snack?

When I was 16, living with my parents, and clandestinely fucking the shit out of my boyfriend in my room as often as possible (strictly forbidden by old-fashioned parents), my cat tipped over my bedroom bin, leaving a terrible mess on the floor. Next day the cat started chasing her tail in the kitchen, and upon closer inspection it turned out she wasn’t chasing her tail but rather chasing something that was trailing out of her bum. While my little brother maintained that it was undigested chicken skin, it was in fact a used condom which she’d evidently eaten and which had passed almost all the way through her before getting stuck at the point of exit. Anyway, the cat was fine once she managed to catch it in her teeth and pull it out. I was, however, mortified and in quite a lot of trouble when my mum came in before I’d managed to dispose of the offending item, and figured out what was going on.

    Hope your dog’s OK, James.

I once took care of a dog being used as a cocaine mule pass half a dozen drug filled condoms, they can definitely pass through without too much trouble. Give the dog plenty of high fiber food to “move things along”. If James sees his dog getting lethargic, depressed, bloated, or unable to defecate he should rush his pet into a veterinarian immediately.
