Attention, North American readers! And readers who have been to North America! Listener Helen has got in touch to ask our advice, but as we are insufficiently well travelled to provide a useful answer, we’re throwing it open to you lot, in the form of a poll. Helen says:
As part of my degree, I am spending next year somewhere in North America but am finding it hard to choose where to go.
We know how you all enjoy exercising your democratic rights, so get voting!

Helen should visit Austin, Texas. Here she can see that not all Texans are conservative assholes; plus we have the best Mexican and vegetarian restaurants anywhere. We’re extremely friendly and we only have two weeks of winter……

Guys, it’s a tad insulting that “America” consists of cities and “Canada”. Canada is huge country, bigger than the United States, and has some of the coolest cities in North America. (America is a misnomer by the way, North America constitutes the country called the United States of America and the country called Canada along with Greenland and others.) If I were Helen, I would serious look into Vancouver – laid back with weather similar to England, Calgary – lots of money there, Toronto – pretty similar to New York with fewer “celebrities” or Montreal – fucking freezing but SO MUCH FUN.
As an aside, when I voted for Canada, it showed that 45% of voters think that’s where Helen should go. I’m thinking Graham from Canada has voted more than once.
Love your show, Deirdre (pronounced the Irish way – Deer-draw).
